  1. First Edition of INSPIRE 2017 Held in Jaipur


The first edition of the International Symposium to Promote Innovation & Research in Energy Efficiency (INSPIRE 2017) was kicked off in Jaipur today. 

The five-day symposium is being organized by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in partnership with The World Bank, and Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE). 
    Its objective was to provide common platform for energy efficiency community to discuss energy efficiency policies, emerging technologies, market transformation strategies, delivery and business-model driven transformations.


Union Ministry Shaktikanta Das appointed as India’s G 20 Sherpa.


  • The Ministry of Finance appointed former economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das as India’s G20 Sherpa for the Development Track of the grouping.

  • There are two tracks in G-20 — Finance Track and Development Track. Finance Track is managed by the secretary (economic affairs) as India’s Deputy to G-20 and the Development Track is coordinated by the Sherpa. 



 Japan's Hiroshi Marui honoured with 3rd ICCR distinguished Indologist Award


  • President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday conferred the 3rd ICCR Distinguished Indologist Award on Professor Hiroshi Marui of Japan at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • Professor Marui has spent over 40 years working on Indian philosophy and Buddhist Studies. He is President of Japanese Association of Indian and Buddhist Studies and has made significant contribution to Indology in Japan.

Asian Development Bank to extend $20 billion loan to India over 5 years


  • Multi-lateral funding agency Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Monday said it will raise annual funding to India up to $4 billion from existing $2.7 billion, from next year.
  • To accelerate inclusive economic transformation of India, ADB has decided to provide loans up to $4 billion on annual basis including non-sovereign debt during 2018-22, said Kenichi Yokoyama, ADB Country Director in India.


NK Singh Appointed as 15th Finance Commission Chairman


  • The government announced that former revenue secretary NK Singh will be the chairman of the 15th Finance Commission (FC) that will recommend distribution of taxes between the Centre and the states
  • Other members of the commission are former department of economic affair secretary Shaktikanta Das, Anoop Singh, professor at Georgetown University, former chief economic advisor Ashok Lahiri, agricultural expert and NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand. Chand and Lahiri are part time members. The commission has to submit its report by October 30, 2019.

7th World Military Games to be Held at Wuhan in China


  • The 7th international military games will be held in Wuhan city in the central China's Hubei Provinc.
  • The International Military Sports Council (CISM)’s  Military World Games is a top sport event for military personnel.
  • It comprises 329 competitions in 27 categories and is expected to attract around 8,000 participants from more than 100 countries and regions.
  • Emblem-consists of a dove, a star, ribbons and other elements
    Mascot-Bing Bing. Its design is based on the Chinese sturgeon, a critically endangered fish known as the “panda in water”.
    Slogan-Military glory, world peace.


Indian Men’s and Women’s Teams Win 2017 Asian Kabaddi Championships



  • The men beat Pakistan 36-22 in the final, while the women got the better of South Korea 42-20.

India claim 5 gold medal, become champions at World Youth Boxing


  • Nitu (48kg), Jyoti Gulia (51kg), Sakshi choudhury (54kg), Shashi Chopra (57kg) and Ankushita Boro (64kg) won gold medals for an Indian
  • India won 5 gold medals at the AIBA World Women’s Youth Boxing Championships, in Guwahati.


Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is crowned Miss Universe 2017


  • Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has been crowned Miss Universe 2017.
  • Nel-Peters beat out first runner-up Miss Colombia Laura González and second runner-up Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett for the crown in Las Vegas. 
  • Nel-Peters, 22, recently earned her degree in business management at North-West University.

India, Greece sign air services agreement

  • India and Greece on Monday signed an air services agreement and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy.
  • The agreement was signed in New Delhi between India's Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her visiting Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias.



Ishaan Khatter Wins Best Actor Award at Turkish Film Fest

  • Ishaan Khatter was named the Best Actor for his debut film Beyond The Clouds at the International Bosphorus Film Festival in Turkey.
  • Beyond The Clouds was the opening movie of the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 2017.

Health Ministry wins Bronze Medal at the India International Trade Fair 2017

  • Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been awarded the Bronze Medal for its creative and informative display at the 37th India International Trade Fair 2017 being held at Pragati Maidan.
  • The Health Ministry pavilion highlighted programmes and initiatives of the Health Ministry such as Mission Indradhnaush for expanding full immunization coverage, introduction of new vaccines, Pradhan Mantri Matritva Suraksha Yojana (PMSMA), Mother’s Absolute Affection (MAA) for encouraging breastfeeding, Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) for strengthening the tertiary health sector.
