1st Indo-US tri-services exercise likely to be in India in 2019

 The first such exercise involving all the 3 forces will be in India, and it will take place in 2019.
An Initial Planning Conference (IPC) will be held to discuss the scale of the exercise.

       It will focus on United Nations-based scenario and the over-arching mission of humanitarian assistance, disaster relief measure.

 In the exercise, the Indian Army will have Para SF, the Navy will have Marcos while the Air Force’s Garud will be their respective Special Forces.

 It was formally announced after the first 2 plus 2 plus dialogue between the External Affairs and Defence Ministers of the 2 countries.

New Delhi to host 6th India International Silk Fair
The International Silk fair will be organised by the Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (ISEPC) at Pragati Maidan.
 
Over 108 exhibitors of silk and blended silk products and over 218 buyers from various countries will participate in the fair.

The IISF-2018 is expected to generate  business of over USD 20 million for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in producing silk and blended silk products.

Also, the Central Silk Board will put up a Theme Pavilion showcasing the future vision of Indian Silk Industry.

Great Britain Beats India To Win Sultan Johar Cup Junior Hockey

 

Great Britain lifted the 2018 Sultan of Johor Cup.  

In Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Great Britain defeated India in the final. The other teams in the tournament were Japan, Australia, Malaysia and New Zealand.

Nimesh Shah elected new chairman of Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI)
Nimesh Shah has replaced A Balasubramanian, chief executive officer of Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund. A Balasubramanian became AMFI chairman in 2016.
 Kailash Kulkarni, CEO of L&T Mutual Fund, remains the vice chairperson of AMFI.
 Nimesh Shah joined the mutual fund industry in July 2007.







Tushar Mehta Appointed Solicitor General Of India

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta has been appointed as the new Solicitor General of India. The senior lawyer will assume the office of the Solicitor General till June 30, 2020. Presently, Mehta is serving as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India. 


Leander Paes Lifts Santo Domingo Open Trophy


ndian tennis legend  Leander Paes has won his second Challenger-level title of the season, lifting the Santo Domingo Open trophy with partner Miguel Angel Reyyes-Varela.

The second-seeded Indo- Mexican pair, playing its second consecutive final, came from behind to beat Ariel Behar and Roberto Quiroz 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the summit clash, which lasted one hour and 26 minutes in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. 


Sikkim Wins FAO's Future Policy Award 2018



The North-eastern state Sikkim won the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO) Future Policy Award 2018 for being the world's first 100% organic state. Sikkim defeated 51 nominated policies from 25 countries, winning the Gold Prize of the Future Policy Award 2018, also known as “Oscar for Best Policies”.


India, China Launched 1st Joint Programme For Afghanistan To Train Diplomats



India and China have launched their first joint programme for Afghanistan to train its diplomats. According to the Indian Embassy in Beijing, Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Vinay Kumar hosted 10 Afghan Diplomats who will be travelling to India for the 1st India-China joint training programme for Afghan diplomats under the aegis of the Trilateral Cooperation between India, China and Afghanistan.
